The Royal Vistarian Police (RVP) and Royal Court take protecting victims, witnesses, minors and vulnerable people extremely seriously.
Interviews
In interviews, minors and vulnerable people have the right to have an adult present. The RVP will assist in finding an adult if the person cannot find one for themselves.
Victims and witnesses may also have someone else of their choice present with them at the RVP’s discretion. The RVP will try to accommodate most requests where reasonable.
All interviews with victims, witnesses, minors and vulnerable people will be made as casual as possible, with the person being allowed to take a break at any time.
Testifying and giving evidence
Victims, witnesses, minors and vulnerable people have the right to choose how they testify and give evidence.
Where possible, the Royal Court can permit the person to give evidence or testify by written statement or pre-recorded video. Victims can not be forced to confront the person accused of a crime against them.
General proceedings
The Royal Court can limit access to proceedings or information to protect victims, witnesses, minors and vulnerable people.
A closed hearing means that members of the public are not allowed to attend. A sealed case means that some or all information is not available to the public, even in official records.
